Reliability test of MOTI vs. production robot

In the development of MOTI, a series of tests are carried out in order to ensure that MOTI delivers reliable data for the Range of Motion (ROM).

To evaluate the accuracy of MOTI, we used a production robot from Universal Robots as a test arm. The robot has a positional accuracy of +/- 0.05 mm. MOTI was mounted to the arm of the robot in four different positions, where five measurements were taken at each of the following positions: 30°, 60°, 90°, 120°, and 150°.

The measurements are grouped together,

to represent an arbitrary orientation of MOTI during measurement. This means that a total of 20 measurements (n=20) are available for each angular measurement. A confidence level of 95%, with a coverage level of 99% is chosen to calculate statistical tolerance levels for the measuring accuracy of the MOTI device.

Using the method described above, it is determined that MOTI has a measuring accuracy of +/-3°, which is very promising this early in the process.

Further testing is needed, as the results presented are based on a single MOTI device. Testing is planned in the end of October, for a measurement series of 6 MOTI devices using the latest hardware and firmware updates.
